Day before Matt & Julie's Wedding

Posted by Dawn at Thursday, June 03, 2010
Today, went out lunch with colleagues at one of our favourite Teochew Restaurant, Huat Kee as Mr Thoh wanted to treat especially Matthew and Julie since they would be getting married tomorrow. Mr Thoh knows the owner. So he would specifically call up the restaurant to book a few dishes first and the owner would also recommend dishes not in the menu.

Each visit to this restaurant is unique as they have so much different food to try.

We had stir fry veggies, oyster omelette,

then one of the special dish we ordered was stewed chicken and cabbage . Its very nice and tasty. The cabbage is stewed till soft and the taste is so rich.

There was this beancurd dish which tasted different. Not sure how to describe it..It just didnt taste like beancurd.

We also had teochew style steamed fish

And I had cheng tng with ginko nuts and water chestnut for dessert. This is probably one of the best cheng tng I have tasted as its unique and very interesting. Its not the usual dark coloured sweetened soup that you get. In fact, the soup is clear and it is not sweet at all. However, the sweetened dried longan, gingko nuts, water chestnut is sweet that it compliments the soup perfectly. A simple yet perfectly balanced dessert!

Great place to come here for interesting Teochew dishes!
