This morning, CT and I took a cab and reached the airport at about 640am.
We checked in early to enjoy the SliverKris Lounge. Just so as to make it not obvious, I took the following pictures with my camera phone.
The Lounge at Terminal 3 was huge, and classy! It seemed like the size of a football field or more. They served us buffet breakfast consisting of so many kinds of food ranging from american to indian to chinese breakfast.
There was also free flow of fruits juices canned drinks, mineral water, liquor and hot beverages etc.
We got our drinks and snacks after a filling breakfast as we were reading newspapers and magazines.
Half an hour before our departure, we rushed to the gate and boarded the plane. Immediately, we were served with a choice of drinks.
A couple of months back when we booked our flights, I actually "book the cook". It means that I could pre-order what food I would like to eat. So anyway, here's what I ordered...but before that, we had our appetisers with an array of fresh bread to choose from.
And here's my lunch. Can you imagine after that filling breakfast, I could still eat this?
Here's my Slipper lobster Thermidor, buttered asparagus, and slow-roasted vine-ripened tomato, and saffron rice
As for dessert, we had rum raisin ice cream with berries compote. It seemed like there was ladyfingers-sponge cake (the ones found in tiramisu) at the bottom of the ice cream.
On board the plane, I caught two movies- Vantage Point and 10, 000 BC. I didnt manage to finish 10, 000 BC as the flight was only 3 hours plus long. I enjoyed watching "Vantage Point". Will post up my reviews soon on my blog.
After reaching HK, we took the Airport Express Train to HK island and then took the MTR to the station nearest to our hotel. We stayed at Kimberly Hotel, that was recommended by my friend who loved that hotel because of its location. Its at the heart of tsim sha tsui.
After checking in to our hotel, we unpacked and off we went checking out the area. Though I have been to HK about 3-4 times, it is really peculiar that each time I go, I see different things. I do not seem to recognise the surroundings anymore.
There was the "Countdown to Beijing Olympics" signs in HK, as well as souvenirs. However, wasnt tempted to buy because I do not really like the mascots. Not cute at all.
This trip seemed like a food trip more than a shopping one. Mainly because I seldom shop. So, even though we had a filing buffet breakfast, plus heavy meal on board the plane, I still wanted to have a proper lunch. So, I ordered wanton mee with soup and CT had yang chow fried rice. Nothing delicious to shout about, so I wont post the address of the place.
While we were walking and looking at shops, we passed by a pie and tart specialist. So CT ordered a chocolate milk tart while I ordered a char siew pie.
I was very disappointed with my pie but CT's tart was awesome. It was piping hot and the chocolate milk on top was so soft.
So if you are interested, the shop is along Chatnam Road South at Tsim Sha Tsui Area. If I am not wrong, its somewhere near junction of Mody Road.
In the evening, we went back to our hotel to bathe and freshen up before dinner. In HK, you cant expect much of a view from the hotel as the buildings are all so cluttered and dirty looking. Here's the view from my room- a guy was actually playing basketball on the rooftop.
When we first arrived, it was drizzling a little. Its funny or rather, scary when we watched the local news and it talked about how HK was flooding so badly so much so that flights had to be cancelled. I say its funny because while watching that, I felt as if I was in a different part of the world as I didnt even feel the effects of flood or whatsoever and though the weather wasnt sunny, it was only a light drizzle. Thank God!
At night, we went to the Harbour area to catch the "Symphony of Lights" show at 8pm. (this show is on daily)
Because I didnt bring my tripod, the pictures I took at night, wasnt up to my expectations.
Here are the mascots for the upcoming Olympics.
For dinner, we went to Hard Rock Cafe. We shared a Legendary 10 oz burger, topped with bacon, 2 slices of cheddar cheese, a fried onion ring, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. One of the best burgers I have eaten so far because the patty is thick and juicy!
And there was live music to entertain us. We also ordered a fresh apple cobbler as dessert, served warm with Vanilla ice cream topped with walnuts and caramel sauce.
We left the restaurant just when the live music started getting noisy and loud.
Walked back to our hotel after the nice dinner. Reached back at about 10 pm.
