Gobbling down her first foods

Posted by Dawn at Thursday, May 28, 2009 0 comments
Now that Meimei is 5 months old, we decided to try solids on her. Reason is because she has been drinking so much milk every 3 hours! I used to feed her every 4-5 hours on 120-150ml. But since 5 months, she has been now drinking 150-180ml every 3 hours only! Sigh. But at least, she still sleeps throughout the night from 10pm to 6am. Phew.

I recently bought for her Frisocrem. It is a Rice-Based Milk Cereal suitable for infants 4 months old onwards.

So far, she is loving it. Frankly speaking, Danielle seems to enjoy food more than her brother, which I like. I feel happy whenever I see someone enjoying their food.

In this video, you can see her opening up her mouth wide each time.

I cant wait for her to enjoy more food once she has teeth!

Carrot and Corn Puree

Posted by Dawn at Sunday, February 03, 2008 0 comments
This is one of Caleb's favourite food- corn! I guess most kids love corn, that's why you can find it in MacDonalds!

He loved it so much that he couldnt wait for me to feed him that he snatched away the spoon from me. Guess I was too slow..

And this is the kind of mess you should expect..sigh..so dirty! Must keep reminding myself that he is just a baby...so mess is inevitable!

Brocolli chicken porridge

Posted by Dawn at Friday, January 25, 2008 0 comments
I decided to cook something tastier today for Caleb. It was so delicious that when I tried it to taste, I cant stop taking more spoonfuls.

It looks much nicer when it was in the slow cooker.

Here's after blending it..

Caleb didnt finish all but he did enjoy it as he didnt give out a big reaction or strange, disgusted look.

Carrot Porridge

Posted by Dawn at Thursday, January 24, 2008 0 comments
Caleb has started on his first ever porridge meal and we started him off with carrot porridge. How boring, right? Well, what to do? Wanted to go slow...and see how he takes it.

Here's the cooked brown rice with carrots.

And how does it look like after it has been blended?

Doesnt that look like mango juice?

So how did he take his first porridge? Well, he gave that funny, wierd look and took a few mouths. He didn manage to finish all. Oh well...guess maybe he finds it too plain as well. Will cook for him tastier ones in future. Humpph! Fussy boy!

Brocolli carrot

Caleb seems to like brocolli. No matter how I mix the brocolli with another vegetable, he would finish them all.

Anyway, glad he eats veggies.

First rice meal

Posted by Dawn at Saturday, January 12, 2008 0 comments
Today is the day when Caleb has his first taste of brown rice with milk. I actually have a lot of samples of nestle products which I got from baby fairs in Expo or Suntec City. So, I finally used it today as Caleb is turning 6 months soon.

Here is his brown rice...

He really loved it as he finished all and even drank 60ml of milk after that. That is quite a feat considering how small an appetite he has.

Pear and Apricot puree

Posted by Dawn at Sunday, January 06, 2008 3 comments
Just yesterday, went to do my weekend supermarketing and I bought pear as well as apricot to make Caleb's food.

So today, Vicky cooked it and brought it along to my mum-in-law's house to feed him.
We didnt mix it together as we wanted him to try the distinct taste of each fruit first.

Well, here's his reaction...

He is eating his pear puree in this video

And here is Caleb eating his apricot puree..

So verdict: he finds it too sour...

The thing is that when I ate it as a fruit, I liked it because it was sweet. But after blending it, it turned out sour. Any idea why is this so?

Butternut Squash puree

Posted by Dawn at Wednesday, January 02, 2008 0 comments
A week back, Caleb ate butternut squash puree and he loved it.

Its similar taste to pumpkin. So,if your baby loves to eat pumpkin, then most likely he/she would love this as well.

Same method of cooking

1) cut to small pieces
2) add a little of water, steam
3) Blend to make it puree

Banana puree

Posted by Dawn at Wednesday, January 02, 2008 0 comments
A few days back, I have also tried banana puree on Caleb and he likes it too.

Glad he is coping well with most food that I feed him with as I really want to train him to eat all kinds of food since me and my brother has been brought up that way.

Same method of preparing:
1) steam with a little water
2) Blend to become puree

Optional: can add milk(breastmilk or formula milk) if you like..to have banana milkshake! yumyum!

Papaya puree

Posted by Dawn at Wednesday, December 26, 2007 0 comments
Today is Caleb's 5 month jab. So, I brought him to the clinic for the jab.

He was a good boy. Didnt cry too much. Just that his fever lasted for a day...

After the jab, went cold storage to see if there's anything to buy. In the end, I bought papaya and butternut squash for Caleb's food puree!

Came home and made papaya puree for him to taste. He doesnt seem to like it as much.

But nevertheless, he tried his best to finish as much.

His first time wearing a plastic bib which my friend, Esther got for him from US. Its really useful since it can be washed easily and its big enough to 'catch' his food.

Brocolli puree

Posted by Dawn at Saturday, December 22, 2007 0 comments
This afternoon, went to Mum-in-Law place for lunch. It is like a day where we have tang yuan (glutinous rice balls). So she cooked a lot for us. Caleb was enjoying his new puree meal- steamed brocolli.

My first reaction when I looked at the colour, I just thought of Caleb's poo. Its almost the same colour. Hehe.

Anyway, he loved it!That's all it matters.

After his meal, he sat in this big recliner chair all by himself.

After lunch, we went Tampines for supermarketing with my mum in law. Then headed home after that. We bought lots of stuff to stock up for Christmas as I just invited my in-laws over for dinner on Christmas Eve for a BBQ cum steamboat meal.

The weather has been so nice and cooling that my balcony gets a lot of wind. So, here is Caleb and CT taking advantage of the great weather. Check out the difference in size...

How I wish this weather would stay throughout the year....as I do not like to perspire, especially when there are times when I teach in the classroom sweating like an animal.

Cream of potato carrot soup

Posted by Dawn at Tuesday, December 04, 2007 0 comments
So far, Caleb has only been eating solids once a week. Its not everyday...

This week, I fed him cream of potato carrot soup. Or rather, it tasted just like it-so yummy.

The easy steps in making a puree:

1)steam the potatoes and carrots with water till soft
2)blend everything together to make it like a puree
3)add in my breastmilk and mix it together.

Ta da..my cream of potato carrot soup - baby version!

Caleb actually finished all of it!

Carrot and Potato Puree

Posted by Dawn at Friday, November 30, 2007 0 comments
The second 'solid' food that Caleb has taken so far is carrot and potato puree. I think its good for Caleb to start eating early as he is so small for his age. He needs more nutrients and food!

And here is my messy boy...(this picture was just taken a min after I fed him and his bib was already so dirty)

At certain times, he would stick his fingers in, thus causing his fingers to be so dirty..sigh. I hate mess but I have to live with it.

Here is how dirty it can get...

And the worse thing is that he can still be happy being dirty and messy.

Here is Caleb taking the spoon away from me to feed himself..or rather, he just wants to play with it and study what this little brightly-coloured stick can do.

Here is Caleb enjoying his food..

He actually finished all his food. So proud of him as I do not like to see food wasted..

Here is a video of Caleb eating his food messily. Watch out for his tongue too..

Apple Puree- his first food!

Posted by Dawn at Saturday, November 24, 2007 0 comments
This morning, woke up at 6am plus and took MRT with CT alone to Rangoon Road for Bak Ku Teh breakfast. We dropped at Farrer Park Station which is about 15-20 mins ride from Punggol MRT Station.

It is a popular shop, called "Ng Ah Sio Bak Ku Teh", with lots of food awards. However, my expectations wasnt met. Quite disappointing because some of the pork ribs were a bit tough. Other than that, the soup was really thick and tasty.

It wasnt cheap as well. Two of us ordered bak ku teh, you tiao, 2 bowls of rice and chinese tea cost us $16.80 altogether. So be prepared to pay close to $10 per person.

We spent the day together at home. Here is CT and Caleb...

Here is Caleb still crying a number of times in the day..(sigh..when will this stop?)

And today, we did something special..We actually gave Caleb his first "solid" food.
Vicky steamed apples and blendered it to make it a puree. From 4 months onwards, a baby can start eating already. I know some people will be skeptical in giving food to a baby at such an early age. But I came to a conclusion that it doesnt really matter whether give the food when they are 4 months or when they reach 6 months...

So we started today..

We just feed once a day while the rest of the meals would still be milk. Today was just a testing stage and so how did Caleb react?

Well, he was squinting his eyes as if it was very sour since he never tasted anything like that before.

Here is Caleb, the messy eater...I must try to get used to his messyness.

All in all, Caleb took about 5 spoonfuls. Not too bad on his first try. There were lots of leftovers which CT and I slurped it down in the late afternoon as we took it out from the fridge. Nice cool slurpy! hehe..
