Breakfast is fun!

Posted by Dawn at Sunday, March 11, 2012 0 comments

I don't know about you but recently, I realised how fun breakfast can actually be! There's just so many variations that you can eat during breakfast that I love this meal the best! I used to skip breakfast almost every morning but have learnt to appreciate it and enjoy it! (though I still get lazy once in a while and skip about 2-3 times a week)

Why I say breakfast is fun is because there's so many kinds of breakfast food that I simply LOVEEEE! I love eating the Chinatown Complex Ikan Bilis Yong Tau Foo and glutinous rice there. My family's favourite haunt when I was studying in NUS. My whole family would go there for breakfast by 7am. Then my mum would drive dad to work while my brother and I would go NUS together.

Then I also love eating chee cheong fun. The kind I like would be the ones without the sweet sauce. Instead, I prefer to just add sesame oil and soya sauce. Here's the one which I usually eat for my breakfast as I would drop by to buy and bring to my school at 630am. I like this stall as they would add chai poh to it and its very near my school.
Then at times, my colleagues would also treat me to breakfast- another of my favourite....Vegetarian Bee Hoon!
I also like to eat bee hoon with luncheon meat, fish cake and fried egg with runny yolk! Oooo...drooling already. Then at times, I would eat nasi lemak..another of my favourite! Especially with the sambal chilli.
Another to die for breakfast is this!! Pork Porridge (with egg), you tiao (dough fritters) and raw fish!!
Then of course, there would be chee kway which is usually my side dish for breakfast.
Sometimes, for breakfast, I would cook glutinous rice for my colleagues' breakfast to just brighten up their day and show my love and appreciation for them.
Then in the past, I would go marketing in the morning with my mother-in-law at Bedok and we would have Bak Chor Mee (Soup) for breakfast! That is also very yummy.
And also Char Siew Wantan Mee
I also like eating char siew pau or da pau for breakfast, as well as siew mai. Then, there's this which I love! Very sinful but delicious!
Another kind of breakfast which I love to cook for the family is bacon and eggs!

The food list just goes on and on...

I guess I found interest in breakfast recently when my colleagues and I now usually meet for breakfast around the table at our staff pantry by 645am. We would eat together and share breakfast, as well as talk about anything and everything. So with great company, comes great food! This is so Singaporean...

Here's our breakfast club..(missing Mr Choo in the picture as he was away on course)

Anyway, let's all learn to appreciate the things around us and that includes friendship and food! ;p

Christmas with the family

Posted by Dawn at Monday, December 26, 2011 0 comments
Christmas is a great time spent with loved ones as the whole world celebrates Jesus' birthday.
Woke up on Christmas morning to a nice breakfast made by my new helper, Wina. She made Min Jian Kueh (Peanut Pancake)
Every Christmas morning, we would have a good breakfast together as a family, open up our presents under the Christmas tree and have a family time of sharing. This year was no exception.
Wina sat down with us for our sharing as we talked about how God has been good to us..it was a time of thanksgiving. The next day, Wina again cooked for us a fabulous breakfast since it was a holiday! She prepared Mee Goreng.
Then CT brought us to MacRitchie Reservoir for a nice morning walk..
The kids were having a great time!
I always enjoy the nature and outdoors...something which I love to instil into my children so that they will learn to appreciate it as well and not always go to shopping malls where it is so crowded and noisy.
After our morning stroll at the reservoir, we went to the Singapore Flyer where we had lunch and we sat brought the children up to the flyer for their first time..(it was my third time!)
We had lunch at the flyer ground floor where they serve street hawker famous food from all over Singapore. It was more expensive but I love the ambience and the old, nostalgic feel to it.
Being my third time to the flyer, I thought it would be the same old thing. But glad it wasnt. There was an exhibition before we boarded the flyer. Quite interesting as it was fun and interactive for the children to play.
This time round, I didnt feel as bored in the flyer..probably because I had to take care of my children and the capsule was quite crowded. So, the whole atmosphere was one of excitement while the other two times I went, me and my friends seemed to own the whole capsule. So empty.
Now with more things being built around the area, there was also more things to see..
I was quite bored after a while..so decided to take picture of Caleb's soft toy penguin which I bought for him from Australia
Danielle also started taking my camera to take pictures. I must say, she is quite a good photographer!
Glad the kids had fun in the flyer.

Tomato Bruschetta

Posted by Dawn at Monday, May 09, 2011 0 comments
My favourite frozen pizza brand is Dr Oetker and a couple of weeks back, I ate the pizza mozzarella flavour and I was very surprised by the simplicity of the ingredients and yet, it tasted so good!

There was just basil pesto, tomato, tomato paste and mozarella cheese on top.

So with that in mind, I have all along wanted to make that for breakfast for my family by adding the same exact ingredients on a baguette.

And I did that today, given the opportunity...since it was a holiday (right after the general election on Sat).

Also cooked cream of mushroom soup to go along with it for breakfast!

Having bread with creamed soup was actually an idea given to me by my church. Every week, free breakfast is served to all those who serves on that particular Sunday and at times, we have wholemeal bread with fried luncheon meat and sausage as well as cream of mushroom soup! So yummy! Bread with soup simply warms me up and starts my day right somehow! ;p

Family workout

Posted by Dawn at Saturday, April 23, 2011 0 comments
Just the night before, we went to check out the latest developments around my area- huge snooker place with many tables as well as an indoor football court

There will also be prawn fishing as well as more restaurants coming up. At present, we have a Japanese Restaurant-Shin Nichi, Popeyes Fast Food, Xian Seafood Restaurant and Frienzie Bistro and Bar Restaurant.

The next morning, we brought the kids for jogging.

The kids loved it!

After the workout, we went to KFC for breakfast where the kids had waffles and pancake which they were chomping down!

Truly enjoyed time spent with the kids doing meaningful activities like this, rather than staying at home, watching TV or playing with the computer.

Daytrip to JB

Posted by Dawn at Saturday, April 03, 2010 0 comments
Went to Johor Bahru (JB), Malaysia with CT and my mother-in-law today. Left the kids at my parent's place as it will be a whole day and I was afraid the children will be tired. Moreover, Caleb has been coughing.

We picked my mum-in-law up at about 8am before driving to Malaysia. Our first stop in JB was to pump CNG. Dirt cheap. Costs only few Singapore dollars. The time was still early and so we went in search of a breakfast place.

I drove instead after out first stop and I was glad I did as between me and CT, I am less stressed behind the wheel when it comes to exploring new areas and not having a destination in mind. CT is more a task oriented person and needs to have a destination before he is confident and more relaxed when driving. I am comfortable driving everywhere even without a destination in mind. And probably because of that, I managed to settle down in a breakfast place which looks good on the outside because there were a number of people eating in it and everything about the place looks authentically nice-the right kind of dirtyness and enough people in it to consider it good. ;)

We ordered laksa, dried fishball bee hoon while my mother-in-law had fish soup noodles. We also ordered fried carrot cake. Everything was SO SO SO good...

Let me first talk about the laksa. The noodles was fat. A little like the 'lao shu fen' (bee tai mak)or Japanese udon which we have in Singapore but the texture was so good- not overcooked, very bouncy. There were so many ingredients in it as well!

Then we had dried bee hoon. The soup was very tasty and has a lot of ingredients.

Even my mother-in-law's soup has a few pieces of fish steak in it.

It was so enjoyable that I quickly saved my location in my GPS. Will share with you the coordinates for those who are interested to know.

The coffeeshop is called, "Restoran Hup Heng"

which is opposite this building-Perling Mall (I think..), just along the highway.

After breakfast, we made our way to Jusco @ Bukit Indah which just opened in Dec 2008. We spent the whole morning till afternoon there, shopping. I loved the place as it was huge so it seemed that there were not many people. They even have a children's playground inside the departmental store.

For lunch, we went to Nando's- a place which I have always wanted to go as my friend has been recommending it to me. Good news for Nando's fan as Nando's will be coming to Singapore soon!

The taste of the chicken is very well marinated. Their sauce is also quite special.

After lunch, we did our grocery shopping at the supermarket before heading back to Singapore.

There were many people buying lots of diapers!! And I mean LOTS!

Had a really great time! Can't wait to bring the children next time round!
