BBQ nite

The weather in Singapore has been so humid...I would definitely enjoy BBQ more if the weather was cooler. But nevertheless, I still love eating BBQ food. My student's parent invited me and the Robotic students over to her place for BBQ to celebrate our achievements in US. It was a very nice gesture which I would probably do for my child too! Ha.

Anyway, I went over to school to pick my students up and went over to the house for BBQ. It was a very unique house which I have never seen before! Unique because I felt like I was visiting Underwater world!

Check out the food! Not easy to have BBQ for just 10 people. So I was glad there wasnt too much food!

It was seriously cook as you eat kind of BBQ...whatever we felt like eating, we just put our stick there..

Had a great time esp when I found out that my student's parent purposely roasted beef in the oven for me as she knew I love to eat beef. Touched! ;)

Early Birthday Celebration

Went out with my ex-student,Lycia tonight to celebrate her birthday. Her birthday is actually on 6th of May but because she would be fully booked for the rest of the week, she was only free today. Oh, I went to her house to pick her up and spotted her new running shoes! I had to wear it as it was the exact colours I had been looking for. So she lent me to wear it out tonight.

Went to Liang Seah Street for BBQ Buffet at Arirang Korean Restaurant. Quite reasonably priced. About $20 per person. However, quality so-so.

The grilled fish was nice!

We were busy eating until I forgot to take a picture together with the birthday girl. So only when I sent her home, then I managed to take a picture with her!

Happy birthday Lycia! Thank God for allowing me to get to know you and pray that you will happy and will do well in your studies as you embark your journey into poly!

CNY food...

Had a yearly indulgence of carrot cake at my relatives' house.


This time round, it was definitely more fun as the kids are older and they get to enjoy the yummy food.



They also enjoyed playing with their cousins.




The older cousins stayed in the house as they did their drawing.


Also had feasting at my mum-in-law's place as well as my parent's place.


At my parent's place, my church cell group went over to visit and had dinner. As usual, my mum would definitely ensure that we were all well-fed.


There were lots of cooked food as well as BBQ food.

My sister-in-law also invited us for dinner at her place. We had steamboat! It was very nice and healthy! Loved it!




I have to admit that I have controlled myself quite well this year. I didnt indulge too much on all the CNY goodies and spread of food. I guess that happened because I was down with flu and also had stomach upset. So that probably helped me to watch what I ate...a blessing in disguise indeed!

Yearly Reunion Dinner

The night before Chinese New Year, I would go to my parents' place for dinner.
Always looking forward to the spread of food!

But before that, there was a mini food spread going on here where Danielle was the host! She was laying the plates out and going to everyone, serving them drinks. Its interesting how she is now of age to do role-playing.



And here's the spread of food that I have been waiting for.

However, frankly speaking, my mum doesnt do this only once a year. In fact, she does have a whole table of food many times in a year. So I am very blessed to have a loving and generous mum! I have definitely picked up the "love of feeding people" from her.


After dinner, the kids all gathered in front of the TV to watch a cartoon movie! How absorbed they all looked.



Love it whenever the family eats together and play together..but more importantly, a family should pray together as well! That's what I am looking forward to in the new year ahead as we spend more time with God as a family every day!

New beginnings..

A new year is a new start, a new beginning to things. New year to me is like hitting the reset button. All those past 'mistakes', that become great learning opportunities, are all gone starting from now. Its time to try to make things right. Things like how I can be a more effective teacher? What strategies should I adopt to help my students get their As?

I do not know how this 2011 year will end, but I do hope that along the way, I will make little adjustments to whatever problems I might face so that I can correct it there and then. My new year resolution is to be make a more conscious effort in the things I love to do and want to do..to stop giving myself excuses. To put in simply, "Just do it!"

Tonight, I specially prepared steamboat cum BBQ for my family so that we can all dine in together at the comfort of our own home.

I always believe in a family sitting together around the dinner table and having a good meal as we fellowship and have meaningful conversations. But of course, right now, Caleb and Danielle just loves to stare at the TV while eating and have not learnt how to make conversations yet, but I am hoping to change all that and inculcate great and meaningful family time every day.

Here's our simple New Year's dinner! I prepared beef (marinated with Japanese BBQ sauce and garlic), pork, fresh prawns (marinated with wine, ginger and salt), threadfin fish slices (marinated with sesame oil, ginger, pepper, salt, soy sauce), shitake mushrooms, veggies, egg beancurd and homemade meatballs.




This is my version of comfort food!




The beef and prawns was the highlight of the dinner. Even Vicky who doesnt eat beef, enjoyed eating a slice of it!

Happy 2011 to one and all! May this year be a meaningful and purposeful one!

CT's colleagues

My hubby has been a chemical engineer after graduation and the life of a chemical engineer usually ends up either in Tuas or Jurong Island (the other side of Singapore). It's not an ideal location that most people would look forward to go to work in because it's not only far for CT to travel, but it's not convenient to get food there.

Anyway, after changing jobs a few times already (by the way, they were all in Jurong Island), he had finally joined a company called Afton Chemicals that is based next to Somerset MRT! How big a contrast is that- from Jurong Island to Orchard Road? However, he still needs to go to Jurong Island most of the time but at least, he drops by at his office once in a while which I feel is a good breather from the smelling of fumes and 'ulu-ness' of Jurong Island.

Anyway, CT's colleagues from America (Hans, Chente and wife-Taiwanese who migrated to US) have been coming to Singapore to work and so we hosted them for an afternoon lunch at my parent's place.



I wanted to let them taste home cooked food in Singapore, instead of the usual restaurants they go to in Orchard.



I knew my mum would play a good host to them as she really has a gift of hospitality.

After a wonderful lunch, my mum actually served 9 different kinds of fruits for them to try.



There were snow lotus fruit (texture is like lotus root but its very thirst quenching. Taste a little like water chestnut), papaya, mango, pomelo, dragon fruit, longans, duku langsat, durian and mangosteen. What a spread!

And lastly, mooncakes with lily flower tea.


Could tell that everyone enjoyed the food!


At night, CT and I went to his American's friend's house. They have been staying in Singapore for quite a while already and they are actually from Texas. So they invited us over for a Texas BBQ session. How could I reject? Love American BBQ!

One amazing thing about this American guy is that he actually purchased a world class Gemini brand BBQ pit, and a smoker pit for cooking smoked food. He bought that from US and got it shipped to Singapore. He said that he went to Tanglin and saw the same BBQ pit for $3000 while he bought it in US for US$600 and after shipping, think he amounted to US$1000. So that was why he got it shipped over from US.


And probably typical American BBQ, there would be lots of drinks!


Frankly speaking, I am not a big fan of BBQ ribs. Reason is because I do not really like the smoked flavour of it plus the BBQ sauce which ends up overpowering the actual taste of the meat. And most of the time, the meat can be dry and there isnt much meat in the ribs. But I have to tell you that tonight, I had the best smoked pork ribs IN MY LIFE!! It was so meaty, tender and juicy. The smoker pit which he bought was really worth it!

There was also smoked beef brisket which was so tender and tasty, mashed potatoes which was absolutely delicious, black eyed peas, salad, BBQ chicken-super tasty, corn which was extra large in size and BBQ jalapeno with mozerella cheese and bacon! It's so good!!!

After dinner, the Americans all stayed back to play Texas Hold 'Em while CT and I drove some of his colleagues back to the hotel.

One of my wish is definitely to organise my own BBQ session with the kind of comfort food I love in a BBQ. Here's what I would have...

1) Mashed Potatoes with Egg
2) Garden Salad
3) Jalapeno with Cheese and Bacon
4) Steak
5) BBQ Chicken
6) Chilli Beans
7) Corn

Yep, that would be it. Love to keep it simple and straightforward.

Cant wait for my own BBQ pit..

Marianne's birthday party

Today, had BBQ at Changi Rise condo, celebrating Marianne's birthday. Was looking forward to it, despite still recovering from my cough and sore throat as it had been a very long time since I had BBQ food and I love BBQ food!!!


Here's strong god-ma carrying both of them!


The food was so delicious! "BBQ Wholesaler" never fails to deliver reasonable priced and great food.



Joshua, Marianne's hubby was the head chef. All thanks to him, the food was ready so quickly!

The lamb and steak was yummy! We even had pop corn over the grill! Here's all of us, waiting for the pop corn to be ready!




It was so delicious and worth the wait. Honey was added to it after it was ready.




Really enjoyed myself as the food and company was awesome. Had a great time catching up with my ex-church mates from Bedok Methodist Church. Thanks Marianne for inviting me! Cant wait for the next BBQ session! haha!
