Goodyear Seafood Village

This place has not yet been fully discovered by many as it rests in the outskirts of Old Tampines Road, where not many travel along.

One of my ex-colleagues, Sarah, chanced upon this restaurant when she and her hubby accidentally made a wrong turn and it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

Went to the place last Friday with my ex-colleagues Sarah, Julie and Thoh Papa for my god pa's belated birthday celebration. When turning into the lane near the restaurant, you would think you are in Malaysia.

This place is good for its curry fish head and Pontian JB Bak Ku Teh.

4 of us, we ordered curry fish head, seafood beancurd, bak ku teh as well as sambal sweet potato leaves.

Every dish was good and tasty. The service was also very prompt.

Especially like the array of condiments to go with the food- raw garlic, sambal chilli, big cut chilli, chilli padi, dark soya sauce, light soya sauce. I went straight for the raw garlic as I have always loved eating my rice and dishes with raw garlic soaked in soya sauce.

Total bill amounted to only $68 for 4 adults which was only about $17 per person. Very reasonable for so many dishes especially the huge pot of curry fish head!

That's me and Thoh Papa who is exactly 40 years older than me! Happy belated 73rd birthday Thoh Papa!

Mum's new dish

Today as usual, went to my parent's place for dinner. Mum cooked up a lot of wonderful dishes today, one of which is the pork bibimbap, a Korean dish. A very nice dish with pork and onions, raw cucumber and carrots, topped with fried egg and bibimbap spicy sauce. Very refreshing and healthy.

Usually weeks after Chinese New Year, my mum would cook pomelo skin as pomelo is a popular fruit during the CNY season..This dish is not for the faint-hearted. Its bitter but when the skin (the white part) is chosen properly, it would not be THAT bitter and in fact, when braised with pork, dried shrimps and mushrooms, its a very nice dish

Triple Celebrations

Today, we had dinner at one of my family's usual haunt for celebration- Grand Shanghai Restaurant. It is located at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. Intention was to celebrate Pamela and my brother's birthday and since we haven't celebrated Mother's Day,we decided that it shall be a triple celebration.

As usual, there would be live entertainment by the musicians and singer.



It was entertaining for the kids as well. Caleb and Danielle went to the front of stage and just stared at the people on stage.

The soup is as usual very nice! Would strongly recommend it!


So tasty..You can simply tell by the colour of the soup.


We also had stir fried eel. A dish which I recommend you to eat with rice as its quite salty.


Then we had peking duck. My all-time favourite dish and with the meat, we used it to wrap lettuce. Very light and tasty especially with the pine nuts and crunchy water chestnut.


Overall, yet another wonderful experience..

Happy Mother's Day

The day before our Mother's Day celebration, we had a birthday celebration for my mum-in-law at home.



Birthday cake was made by my sister-in-law.

Today, went Chin Lee Teochew Restaurant for Mother's Day celebration. I booked this the last time I was there for lunch with my colleagues.


Their service was very efficient.

We ordered conpoy and fish maw soup, which is one of the best I have tasted. Felt like I was eating shark's fin soup.


Then steamed promfret which came out to be so huge and fresh! I also liked their coffee pork ribs. (Some may not like as its quite strong but thats precisely why I like it), seafood roll with mango salad,


also ordered live prawns with herbs, stir fried veggies, braised sea cucumber & mushrooms


And lastly, yam paste with pumpkin.

Altogether 8 dishes for 9 adults and 4 children. Costs us $265.35 which was very reasonable in my opinion.

The kids grew restless just before dessert and thankfully, they have a playground just next to it!

So I would once again recommend this place for the food, reasonable prices and because its kids friendly, since the kids can always play at the playground if they at bored. You definitely need to book way in advance if you want to eat here.





I hope the prices will remain reasonable despite the crowd!

Huat Kee Teochew Restaurant

I have this colleague, Mr Thoh who loves to treat his friends. He is coming 70 years old in July and in my opinion, is probably the fittest among all of us since he hikes at Bukit Timah almost every day in the forest. His hair is almost all black-natural. Its amazing! Mr Thoh treats me like his god-daughter as his youngest daughter is around my age. So I feel rather privileged. Just few days ago, a few of us even brought him to watch "Ip Man 2" in the theatres as he hasn't been to the movies for about 10 to 20 years already!



He really enjoyed himself as he was laughing in the cinema and told us how happy he was.

Anyway today, he arranged to treat us at Huat Kee Teochew Restaurant. About a week back, we actually went to Chin Lee Teochew Restaurant (Bedok) for lunch but he recommended this one instead, which is at Amoy Street. He said that the food in Huat Kee is less oily.

So off we went once again for another food discovery journey.



There were only 4 of us. So we couldnt order too much to try.

We had braised goose meat

stir fried veggies, which looked and tasted like how I would cook it at home(so didnt really fancy having that in a restaurant like this)

then we had grouper fish head soup which was very nice as they added yam and it was thick and sweet.


They used the body of the fish to steam. This was probably one of the best steamed fish I have tasted


It was cooked to absolute perfection that it just melted in my mouth. Given how big and thick this fish was, every mouth of that fish was priceless...

Then we ended our meal with Orh Nee (yam paste) with pumpkin. Would not recommend this if you do not have a sweet tooth.

Frankly speaking, I still enjoy Chin Lee's teochew food in Bedok as the taste is suited to mine-slightly more oily and tasty. Even the price is more reasonable. At Huat Kee, the 5 dishes we ordered amounted to about $140. But I believe Huat Kee's food is more authentically teochew than Chin Lee's.

So, I leave that for you to decide which you would prefer.

Christmas Lights in Orchard

Today, we decided to bring the kids to Orchard to see the Christmas lightings since we thought the crowd will not be as much since its only the beginning of December (the longer we wait to go Orchard, the more crowded it would be). I forgot that no matter which time of the year, Orchard will still be Orchard, crowded with people!

We took the train down and went to Ion Orchard for dinner. It was Fish & Co anniversary promotion where they were selling their popular Fish & Chips of different styles of cooking from all over the world for a very cheap price. I ordered Swiss Fish & Chips, Vicky ordered New York Fish & Chips and CT ordered New Orleans Fish & Chips. They had also Fish & Chips from Thailand, Greece, Spain, philadelphia etc..



Here's what Caleb had- fish with butter rice.


I didnt enjoy the atmosphere in the restaurant as it was so crowded, squeezy and the music was so noisy! I could hardly hear myself talking! I just wanted to eat quickly and get out of the place!

After dinner, I saw "Dunkin Donuts"- a shop which brought back memories from my schooling days. There was a shop in Far East Shopping Centre, just beside KFC and I used to go there with my classmates after school, when I had the time. Its finally back in Singapore and so, I went in to buy a couple of Donuts. Moreover, Caleb likes to eat donuts too!



Too bad when we went out of Ion Orchard, it was drizzling.



So we stayed at the entrance of the shopping centre, just admiring the huge Christmas tree and decorations of Orchard road, under the shelter.




We could actually go into the Christmas tree and this was what we saw inside. So spectacular!!



Caleb kept running out and into the tree again to see the lights! He was excited. I had a hard time catching him!

Danielle was also admiring the lights!



After a while, we decided to walk down the road, still under the shelter of the various shopping centres. Everything was so pretty and colourful!



We then went to Takashimaya to see if Hi-5 was still around as I know they had a performance in the shopping centre at 7pm. But too bad, I was eating then.

As usual, the huge Christmas tree in Taka! Looks like the same old tree every year..But its still nice and WOW!



Hmm, cant get Danielle's eyes off the tree...oh well.

Hi-5 wasnt around anymore. But at least, they were showing videos of Hi-5. So I plonked the kids and Vicky in front of the stage for them to watch the show, while CT and I went shopping nearby!



We then continued our walk down Orchard Road. There was almost no rain, so we walked outside along the road. Here were some interesting things we saw along the way.

Here's a Ferraro Rocher Christmas tree


And many reindeers dressed differently! I loved this as its really very creative and they were also specially done up by designers!






Caleb was exclaiming all along the way. He was enjoying himself!


Then we walked to the new shopping centre, "313 @ Somerset". The building was quite nicely done with lights changing position all over the building. Very modern!





The shopping centre links to the MRT. So we took the train from there back home.


During the train ride, Caleb was busy socialising with people on the train. Caleb would smile at them and they would also amuse him. When they leave the train, Caleb would then look for another playmate to amuse. He was really having fun, smiling and laughing so much with the passengers.









Was glad to be home, away from the crowd!!
