Woke up about 730am and left the hotel about 8 plus in search for breakfast. Before that, I went to the hotel counter to ask a group of hotel staff where the best egg tart, best old wives cake (lao po bing), best porridge, place to go buy XO sauce, nearest supermarket etc etc. Yes, I was serious about eating good and cheap food during this trip.
So, we went in search for the porridge stall the hotel staff recommended near our hotel. But because there were so many small streets, we missed it and end up in a small cafe that also sold porridge.
Porridge was too watery but for the price of it, it was worth it. HK has sets for breakfast and lunch and it is so worth it. I bought a lean pork, century egg porridge with chee cheong fun (or cheong fun- in Cantonese) and it costs me $23 HK dollars (or S$4)
After a breakfast, we were all set to walk. We walked to the China Ferry Terminal which was only about 10-15 mins walk from our hotel. We wanted to check it out so that a couple of days later, we would know how to go and take a ferry to Macau.
But before we reached the terminal, we spent time at the Kowloon Park which we had to cut through to get to the ferry terminal. It's a huge and interesting park just beside the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station.
We saw many people doing their morning Tai Chi.
And not only were there statues, sculpture and fountains, there were also birds...,fishes, tortoise etc..
For free entrance to the park, this place is definitely worth visiting.
CT and I were quite amazed that flamingoes can actually sleep on one leg.
Then after the visit to the park, we took the bridge that connects to the ferry terminal and the view was spectacular.
I was quite amazed at how huge and tall HK buildings are.
The weather was nice and breezy.
Also caught sight of something interesting- a nicely painted switch room door!
After checking out the ferry terminal and its sights, we took the MTR train to Causeway Bay as there are quite a number of shopping centres there.
When we came out of the MRT at Causeway Bay, I felt as if I was in Lucky Plaza, Singapore where all the filipino maids gathered. There were numerous maids all over and I was amazed at how in the past when I was in HK, I seldom saw other nationalities coming into HK. But this time round, I notice a lot of Indians and filipinas.
There was an interesting, well-decorated building here. But looks can be deceiving. There weren't many shops in it.
Then we walked towards Times Square, a shopping centre selling branded goods. We spotted KFC which we wanted to eat. Initially, saw KFC in a computer shopping centre but the whole shop was dominated by filipinos that there was no space and it was way too noisy. So, we finally found one that has 2 levels and so, we ate near Times Square. Why am I eating KFC in HK, which can be found in Singapore? Well, the reason is that I noticed that each country's KFC is different. They have a distinct taste that suits their people and I wanted to discover what HK's KFC has that Singapore doesnt.
This was what we ordered...(they had curry KFC chicken with rice, which I didnt order because it was too strange for me to order in KFC) I wanted something similar to the usual KFC menu and to just differentiate the taste.
So we ordered this set that was on promotion which came with a zinger burger, 2 hot wings, waffle fries, 2 chicken tenders, 2 sago-pearled chicken ball. Very interesting. I found that their zinger was healthier as there was lots of veggies and tomotoes as well.
And I ordered an extra original chicken to taste. It was a little dry and the taste is similar to Singapore.
They also place their soft drinks in a glass cup which I liked as it made me feel that dining in KFC was not so cheapo. Haha..
After that, we took the train to Mong Kok station where we went to the Goldfish Market.
It was an interesting sight and it was nice to see something different for a change. The whole street was filled with pet shops, especially tropical fish shops.
Then we stopped by a cafe to have egg tarts and ice milk tea. It was delicious as the tarts just came out from the oven.
We wanted so much to rest our tired legs. So, we spent a while at the cafe just staring at what other people are ordering.
We then started our journey South towards Ladies Market- the goods are still cheap since I bargained with them for a low rate. Bought clothes and shoes for Caleb.
Then from Ladies Market, we walked down South to the Temple Street Market. Saw a street basketball court which reminds me of US.
Because it was still too early, we dropped by at a small resting place along the main road to rest our legs again.
As were resting our legs on a bench in a small park, a couple walked by and I actually saw my church member. How interesting.
At about 6 pm, we made our way to the Temple St Night Market...and from there, we walked back to our hotel at Kimberly Road. It was a long walk back (3-4 MTR stations away) but because there were so many shops along the road, it was interesting.
Because we were too exhausted to look for food for our dinner, we ate at a restaurant just opposite our hotel. I had roast duck rice while CT had roast pork rice. Disappointed with it because there was no gravy added. I still prefer Singapore's.
After dinner, went to the nearby supermarket to get some fruits and juice before heading back to hotel. What a tiring day.
