Wedding at Safra

Posted by Dawn at Sunday, November 11, 2007
Today, is my mum's birthday. We had an early celebration at Novotel Hotel in Clarke Quay in October. I made for her my hawaiian ham muffins in the afternoon and brought it to her place at night just before the wedding.

Happy Birthday Mum! All these 20 over years, she has really brought me up well- sacrificing for me in all aspects even up till today. I also noticed how she intentionally treat me and my brother fairly so that she can drive home the message of how she loves me and brother equally. During my helper, Vicky's birthday, she would also cook up a feast for her to celebrate. All these done unconditionally.

"Thanks Mum for being the greatest mum I could ever have. You have taught me well and will be my inspiration to how I bring up my own children now and in the future. Love you!"

Tonight, I went for a niece's wedding(Yes, I am the auntie-makes me sound so old though we are only 3 years apart) at Safra along Telok Blangah Way together with CT, my family and relatives. We all went together in my mum's van. When we arrived, I was so happy because there was a sale of clothes, swimwear, food items at the ground level. You know how weddings tend to start late? So, we spent some time shopping. I bought a pair of shorts for myself while my aunt got biscuits.

The wedding was interesting because it was military style. When the couple walked into the ballroom right at the beginning, they were stopped in stages by the military with their swords and made to do some things before they can move on.

The first 'obstacle' was that the groom needed to sing to the bride a song in either Cantonese/Hokkien dialect. The second 'obstacle' was that the groom had to kiss the bride, go down on his knees and shout "I love you" such that everyone in the ballroom could hear him.

The third obstacle was to french kiss each other till the audience stopped clapping.

In the last obstacle before they reach the stage, the groom had to carry the bride and bring her up on stage. *pant pant*.

CT commented that that is easy considering the bride is always the lightest in her wedding day. Haha..

The food was not too bad. There was abalone which I love. As well as instead of the usual steamed fish with superior soya sauce, they had steamed fish with assam sauce. Quite nice.

I love the dessert because it was refreshing. It was mango juice with pomelo and sago.

I really enjoyed myself not so much for the food or the fact that the couple were being 'sabotaged' right at the beginning of the dinner, but because of the company.

On the way home in the van, we had a lot of moments laughing till tears kept coming down from my eyes as I feel my aunt is a natural comedian though she doesnt intentionally crack the jokes. She seems so innocent when she makes us all laugh. That is what makes her so funny.

The dinner ended earlier than usual weddings probably because it was not held in a hotel.

Reached home at 11pm. Caleb was asleep already.

ah yes, my "natural comedian" mother... we always laugh at her; can't help it!
