Celebrating Mid-Autumn with Pan Xiu Qiong

Posted by Dawn at Saturday, September 06, 2008
Tonight, I brought my mother-in-law to church to celebrate mid-autumn festival which my church Mandarin ministry organised. They even brought in Pan Xiu Qiong (潘秀琼), a veteran singer who was made famous from the song, “Qing Ren De Yen Lei” or Lover’s Tears.

Though I only know a few of her songs, I felt like I knew her personally during her performance and testimony sharing as she was very heartfelt,down-to-earth and jovial.

She really took everyone on a journey down memory lane, with her soulful rendition of a couple of her signature songs in the 70’s. She even sang "Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xin" to dedicate this song to her friend, Teresa Tang and shared to us that the only regret when she passed away was that she was not a Christian.

So the whole night, she sang and shared her life story with us about how she kept wanting to earn lots of money in HK and how much she suffered when she had a brain tumour and eventually how she accepted Christ and the joy and peace she gets after that.

Coincidentally, tonight was her first time meeting her ex-manager after retiring so many years from the music scene. His ex-manager (Mr Xu) was actually brought to this event by his family and it was a reunion for them. How heartwarming. The most touching thing was that 4 years ago, Mr Xu just accepted Christ and even went through baptism.

Would like to share with you a snippet of the video I took. Halfway through the video, you can see Mr Xu who is slightly bald, and in white shirt who was sitting a row in front of me. (Cant see his face though)

For those who know Pan Xiu Qiong's songs..enjoy this one! (one of my favourite!)

After that, she also sang a few Christian songs and here is one of it!

I really enjoyed the night. After that, we went downstairs for a buffet of mooncake, pomelo, steamed yam, steamed yam cake and chinese tea. How nice.

During the whole time, I was just thinking about this generation and the future generations...what will they remember? What fond memories will they have? I just wish that they will learn to reflect about the past and enjoy the good old days of growing up and who knows maybe when they are 50 over years old, they will reminisce on songs by Eminem and Avril Lavigne? Haha..(that's sad)

With this post, I have embedded Teresa Tang's song in my blog for your enjoyment!
