Dragon fruit plant

Posted by Dawn at Monday, September 01, 2008
I have always thought about how much 'character' the dragon fruit has because of its beauty and colour.

I started to appreciate its beauty more when my colleague showed me art paintings of the fruit drawn by her students.

Anyway, enough about the fruit...

Have you see the plant before and its flowers? It made me appreciate it even more when I saw how unique the plant is.

Its plant is actually of cactus species. I only found out when my mum started growing it at the roof top garden.

You can see the plant just behind those red flowers. The leaves are long and has thorns like that of the cactus.

Anyway, the most interesting part is the flower!

Here's the dragon fruit flower! Isnt that interesting?

My mum has also grown jambu (water apple) as well as custard apple. We harvested the water apple today and ate it! So yummy!

So far I have eaten 2 meals of the cai xin grown from the garden as well. Right now, I do not have my own plot of land to grow such fruits and vegetables. But it is definitely still within my wish list to be able to do so...
