A day in Cambridge

Posted by Dawn at Monday, March 10, 2008
This morning as usual, CT and I woke up early. Here's the view from the kitchen...early in the morning when the house was still dark.

Then, CT and I drove out of the barn to check out the area. We drove to a scenic reserve

where there were lots of sheep and a nice view..

Then we went back to our barn and after my family got ready, we took them there to see the nice sights and for Janine to see the sheep and cows upclose.

After that, we went to town to walk around and visit the nice little shops.

But of course as I was walking, I couldnt help but get another pie to munch on as we walked. Here's CT stealing my pies! or rather to put it more diplomatically, he was sharing with me.

Here's the yummy steak and mushroom pie zoomed in!

We stopped by at a mini supermarket that sells asian stuff. Something really caught my eye which I couldnt help but take a picture of it because last night when we ate brinjal, CT was just commenting that thank God we didnt manage to find bittergourd or lady fingers as he doesnt really fancy these 3 types of vegetables.

So, I was excitedly pointing out to CT when I caught sight of this!

It was bittergourd and lady fingers in a can! How rare!

Anyway, of course I didnt buy them since I was quite skeptical as well..

We also stopped by a export meat warehouse that sold pork, beef, sausages, lamb etc.

And we bought lots of steak for cooking! My eyes were dilated as I saw the huge pieces of yummy beef and the cheap prices!

Here's what we got.

We got lamb cubes for our stew, scotch fillet steak which had about 10 pieces inside..

2 T-bone steaks..

and 4 pieces of porterhouse steaks

Check out the cheap prices- it is amazing!

After a bit of shopping, we stopped by at a bakery shop and again, I bought a pie. This time round, a chicken pie! And lots of other stuff like a bacon egg quiche, as well as apple turnover. Yes, I am mad over savoury pies..

Here's my brother's family enjoying their food.

After a nice snack and rest, we dropped by at KFC to takeaway a family meal which includes about 8 pieces of chicken (including 3 more chicken which we bought extra),popcorn chicken, chicken strips, chicken nuggets, 1 large coleslaw, large fries, and large whipped potato. We bought it and brought it to the park to have our little picnic there.

Why KFC you may wonder? Well, one of my cravings is to sample KFC all over the world as they cook the chicken differently and their sides tastes different too. Verdict of KFC in NZ? Didnt like it. The skin was not up to standard...not crispy at all. Coleslaw- a tad too sour and the whipped potato tasted plastic.

But still, I enjoyed my food as I am fine with it if I do not compare with better KFC versions..and most of all, the company and ambience was great!

After that, my brother's family, CT and I went to walk around the lake while my parents stayed back to wait for us. Janine was running around everywhere and each time, we were so afraid of her safety as she could easily run and fall into the lake.

And the other thing was that Janine kept imitating CT...that was bad because CT was climbing up steep slopes and throwing pebbles into the lake. So, it was scary when Janine kept following CT and doing what he does.

I feel that this trip, Janine really enjoyed CT's company and each time CT does something, Janine would laugh heartily and then imitate!

This is what I meant!

Janine really brought us a lot of joy this trip. It was fun playing with her. During this trip, she kept seeing the horses, cows and sheeps eating grass such that she wanted to eat grass as well..

Sigh..she is at the stage where she simply imitates. Its scary!

Anyway, here's what I had for dinner tonight! Yummy!

Lamb stew- lamb with celery, potatoes, carrots and lettuce(which we threw it just to finish it up from the salad I made)

And huge chicken drumstick with onions and ginger. Very tasty!

Its really a warm feeling when the family eats together in a cosy environment with air con temperature weather and enjoying a nice homecooked meal.

How I wish more Singaporean families could make effort to cook at home and eat together as I know that nowadays, people seldom cook and eat at home together because of their busy schedule.

That is why this year, I implemented "Eat with your Family Day" every month (last Fri of the month) to encourage the staff in my school to go back early and spend time with their family and eat with them. So, I make sure that the cleaners, technical staff, operation staff as well as the staff knock off at 5 pm sharp and start closing the gates of the school by 530pm. So far, the response has been good and encouraging as they appreciated it.

love those pictures of NZ... reminds me so much of the time I was there. I went to the south island though. Did I tell you I got married there? At the Church of the Good Shepherd at Lake Tekapo. :) Beautiful beautiful place.
