On our way to Blue Mountains

Posted by Dawn at Tuesday, November 09, 2010
Met at about 7am for breakfast, before checking out of our hostel to leave for blue mountains.

But before that, we did community involvement project at a residential area where we planted about 300 plants into the soil to do our bit for environment. There were volunteers who explained to us why they are doing what they are doing by just playing their part for the environment.

The weather really played a part in making this activity more enjoyable as it was cooling and the air felt so fresh!

We actually did this at the backyards of the neighbourhood and one of the neighbours, who is a volunteer, took out his dog and I had fun playing with it as I love Golden Retrievers!

After the activity, we visited their nursery where they grow the plants.

We toured the nursery, they showed us a couple of video clips on environment and then took us on a nature walk around the area.

We had lots of fun walking and enjoying the weather. They also treated us to chocolate cakes and coke for tea!

After that, we made our way to Featherdale wildlife park for lunch first before viewing the animals.

We went into this small, cosy dining area in the wildlife park for fish and chips.

After that, we had a guide to show us a couple of their animals - the frog mouthed bird and koala.

We also had the opportunity to touch them as he walked around with the animals. After the short presentation, we could roam freely around the park on our owns to see the animals.

It was a lot of fun! My kids would definitely love this as there was a petting farm area with all the farm animals like goat, lamb, pig, ducks etc as well as the kangaroo enclosure.

After an afternoon at the zoo, we finally made our way to blue mountains and checked into our hostel.

What I liked about this hostel is that we had a private group area for us to gather, that includes kitchen. So we had this place to hold our meetings, and had our breakfast.

After checking in, we went out for dinner at a Chinese Restaurant, just few mins walk from our hostel.

Only 2 days in Australia and I was already sick of Western food...sick of french fries. So, we were all quite glad to finally have Chinese food.

After that, we walked to a nearby huge hypermart, Coles and Kmart for some shopping which we all enjoyed very much! My students all seemed to buy so much more stuff than me!

Oh well. Anyway, yet another great day in Australia! The air here in Blue Mountains is definitely more fresh and cool! Love it!
