CT went back to work

This morning, CT left the house at 630am for work. Had bread for breakfast..no more bread left after today already..Just hoping that the power would come back soon.

I went back to sleep after he left since I got nothing to do. Cannot vacuum the floor or wash clothes..so slept and woke up at 8am. I have been trying to call my mum but cannot get her..so I tried again this morning..Called about 10am..as she usually stays awake till about 11pm singapore time..and she should be home at that time.

My mum answered the call and I was so happy. I finally got to talk to her first time since the hurricane happened. She said she tried calling this morning, which was my night.I told her that I went over to the singles apartment to see them cook..That is why she could not get me. She said she called because my grandaunt from New Zealand called her and was worried when she knew about the hurricane at my area.

I told my mum all that happened..the strong winds and what damage it did..and how I have lived without powers for 2 days already..Before I ended the call..I told mum to pray for 2 things specifically-- that my house would have power soon and for my trip to Orlando to be smooth and that I can still go...I told mum that I would be very sad if I cannot go as I have been looking forward to the trip..

When I put down the phone with my mum, I went to the fridge to prepare whatever food I had left..threw some away because it went bad..like the pork ribs..

Cut up the chicken breasts in slices and marinated it for lunch. Will be going over to Gek Teng's place to start fire..so in the morning, I did all the preparation food and called Angeline to join us and meet us at Gek Teng's house.

I also went to buy newspapers just 1 min walk from my door..there is a newsstand..just put in coins and take out newspaper..Wanted to see the pictures of the other places which the hurricane did. Was shocked when I saw pictures of Biloxi and New Orleans...flooded and badly damaged.

Brought the food over and newspaper over to Gek Teng's place. Borrowed fire from CT's colleague and started cooking.
Had veggies, chicken, fish, egg with ham for lunch..yummy..quite fun. I was starving as usual as it took us a while to cook so much stuff. Angeline made dessert too!-- gingko nuts with dried longan meat.

This is a picture of Angeline cooking her fish. It was grouper dipped with egg and pan-fried. Interesting..Had to do it as we wanted to finish the eggs and the fish may noot be fresh to steam..so had to fry.

The other picture was the food we had for lunch..doesnt it look yummy?? hehe..It was a wives cook-out session.



















After lunch, it rained a bit and we wer commenting that the power would probably take longer to come on since it was raining.

Gek Teng was telling me about how she visited New Orleans and Biloxi on Saturday..just 2 days before the hurricane..and people in New Orleans were already evacuating while situation in Biloxi was normal as they all think that the hurricane would not hit them. Gek Teng even had dinner at Biloxi. She was shocked to see the pictures in the newspapers of the place now..

In the late afternoon, me and Gek Teng started doing A Level Mathematics as Gek Teng brought over A Level 10-yr series book. So, we did together..so fun..Angeline was reading the newspapers. Gek Teng kept making so much noise cos I solved the problems quicker..she said I cheated...haha. I told her because I loved the topic we are doing..which was on functions. So, she started flipping through the pages and she chose a topic she likes which was differentiation...and yep, she solved it faster than me! haha..I forgot some of it already but after looking the solutions, I remembered.

It was fun doing mathematics together and helping each other out. After few questions, Gek Teng complained she got headache already because stress..haha..so she stopped. I continued a little more and then stopped when Gek Teng was going to start fire for dinner.

CT called Gek Teng's house a few times cos he knows I was at her place. He told me a piece of gd news-- he managed to change the flight to fly off from Mobile to Orlando, instead of from New Orleans..So, we can go Orlando already. I was so proud of CT for trying his best and succeeding in getting the flight issues done. However, Kok Fong hestily cancelled the hotel booking without even trying to change flight and all as he thought no hope to go Orlando already. After he saw CT succeeded, he quickly change his flight and called back hotel to reinstate back his booking..but cannot because the hotel cancelled already.

So now, Kok Fong and wife would be staying at a diff hotel but we will still be taking the same flight from Mobile to Atlanta (stopover) to Orlando. I was very happy because I knew CT tried very hard to make sure we can still go Orlando because he knows I want to go there..and was looking forward to the trip.

Anyway, me and Gek Teng started the fire on this stove that Gek Teng's neighbour gave us. Her neighbour saw us starting fire and she said she has no used for her BBQ pit..and never used it..so she gave it to Gek Teng to use. So we put charcoal at the pit and started the fire. We brought out chairs to sit while fanning the fire..

Then Angeline arrived with her food for dinner. All of a sudden, we heard the air con starting up!! We looked at each other and rushed in the house to check the power!! And yes, the lights were on and the air con was on!! We screamed and cheered! Haha..it was funny because we all had the same shocked reaction. I was so happy..I quickly went home and tried the computer because CT told me to email him once the power is back on.

However, the TV and the internet cannot work. So, I went back home and cleaned up the house by vacuuming the leaves on the floor in my house and vacuumed the carpet. It feels really really good having the power back on!! After 2 days without power, it was so sad entering the dark house, having no lights and no air con...

I told Gek Teng about the talk I had with my mum and the prayer requests I told her to pray about..and God answered both the requests I made- the Orlando trip and power!!

My heart was full of gratitude to God for all that has happened today!! yay!

CT came home and we went Walmart to buy some more stuff to last us for 2 more days before we go Orlando as most food in fridge spoilt already. Got some veggies and canned food. No frozen food was sold as Walmart needed to check the quality first before selling.

Tonight was a great night..we spent the night watching our VCDs and movies on computer.. We watched "Cold Mountain" movie. I loved the show. It is a love story about Nicole Kidman and this guy..very nice. I enjoyed it.

Though the TV and internet still cannot work, we were already very happy..and glad we got power and can cook properly!

So lesson is, give thanks for what you have-big and small things..never take things for granted.

Simply, we should already be glad we have life! I say this especially after going through the train accident and the hurricane..

Give thanks to God.
