Universal Studio, Orlando

Posted by Dawn at Monday, September 05, 2005
Today, we took the hotel shuttle to Universal Studios since we paid for the facilities and all by staying in the hotel. Kok Fong's motel's shuttle bus will leave at 9 plus am, which is too late. So, they came to our hotel instead and took the bus shuttle together. We reached Universal studios at about 845am. It opens at 9am. It was about 15 mins drive from our hotel. So, quite near as well.

We had to take a travelator to the Universal Studios and walk pass the City walk before reaching the main gate entrance to the studios. Here are some of the pictures taken before entering Universal Studios.

In Universal, there is Island of Adventure, Universal Studios and Universal City Walk. Island of Adventure is mainly rollercoaster rides, Universal Studios is mainly learning more about movies and how they are filmed and a bit of rides, while the City Walk is like downtown Universal with shops, entertainment, restaurants like NBA City and the world largest Hard Rock Cafe. We did not go to Island of Adventure as it is only rides. I prefer Universal Studios where we learn about movies and how they are made. To go to Island of Adventure, I have to buy another ticket which costs about 50 US bucks. So no point.

Anyway, me and CT were running to the entrance of Universal Studios as we like to catch the rides before the crowd comes in. Kok Fong and wife say we very kan cheong..but I told them that by running, it is more exciting.

Our first stop was going for the new attraction, which was Shrek 4D. It is like watching a Shrek Movie with a different plot from the movies but in a more interesting way as the chair would shake, there will be winds, and water. So, you feel more immersed into the movie while watching it.

We also went to attractions like Twister, Earthquake, Jaws, Terminato 2 in 3D, Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast, Back to the Future Ride, where you are immersed into the show and learning about how they filmed it. There is also an attraction called Men in Black -where we sit in this spaceship shooting aliens. The spaceship will travel with aliens popping up and we used our laser gun to shoot and the ship would spin and move very fast at times. At the end of the ride, your score will show. Quite fun.

CT and I enjoyed " Revenge of the Mummy" Ride where we sit in a rollercoaster while being in the movie by experiencing mummies along the way and roaches. Very exciting and sometimes, it gets very dark..so you do not know what to expect and where the roller coaster would go next.

We also went to "Fear Factor Live" where we watch Fear Factor being done in front of a live audience. They also get volunteers to take part. I did not because the volunteers need to be at the area one hour before the live show. I wanted to spend more time with CT exploring Universal Studios. So, I did not go though I always wanted to do it.

Anyway, we caught the live show and it was quite fun watching the show. During "commercial breaks" for the people to set up the different props, the producers got people to go up and do daring stuff like eating of spoilt milk with worms and rotten seafood, or being placed scorpions on your face etc.

We also caught the Animal Planet Live shows where they will feature animals to do tricks.

Me and CT enjoyed the Horror Make-up show where they tell us some tricks horror make up artists do to make horror shots look real. Very entertaining.

Then lastly, we caught the BeetleJuice Graveyard Rock n Roll show where Beetle Juice and his horror friends perform rock and roll music and dance.

After that, we walked along the City Walk. Went to Hard Rock and NBA City and the various shops they have there.

NBA city is quite fun where there is a 3-point shoot competition and inside the restaurant, they have basketball arcade games like shooting the hoop, or testing your reflexes game. Interesting...

After walking and taking shots, we had to go back at 7pm as the hotel shuttle bus would pick us up.

We covered almost everything in Universal Studio since we had the whole day there. Very tiring but fun.

Went back to hotel at about 730pm and we went for dinner at a Chinese Restaurant. Had yummy food- chicken, claypot beancurd and xiao bai cai with beef. It was expensive for such simple food but tasty and deprived of it for so long..so I was glad I had some chinese food.
