Mong Hing Teochew Restaurant

Posted by Dawn at Sunday, December 09, 2007
Tonight, CT thought of bringing his family out for dinner for a change and so that his mum could take a break from cooking for all of us.

So, I recommended going to Mong Hing Teochew Restaurant which I went there once for my friend's 60th birthday and really enjoyed the food. So I thought my mother-in-law would definitely love it.

Mong Hing Teochew Restaurant is found in Keypoint Building at Beach Road. It is actually an office building. So, if you go there for dinner, the building looks deserted. Another good restaurant in Keypoint is YAKINIKU DAIDOMON that is if you love Japanese food, especially the beef.

Anyway, back to Mong Hing. We ordered a dinner set for 8 people. The first dish was a cold and hot dish combination platter. It was very delicious! There was spring rolls, ngor hiang, jellyfish and lastly, pork jelly! I loved the fried stuff and pork jelly! Eating pork jelly was like eating the fatty pork found in kway chup but in a jelly form.

Then we had crayfish which was one of the house specialties. It's cooked with eggs and onions which make it really tasty.

Then we had fish maw soup which everyone also enjoyed. As well as steam pomfret fish-teochew style. I loved this particular style because its light and sourish.

Another house specialties was its goose meat with tou fu underneath. Another classic dish- tender meat with tasty gravy over it.

Had cabbage with mushrooms as well which was the most common tasting dish of all the dishes we had.

And lastly, we had their house special noodles. Taste like the hokkien mee type of noodles-flat noodles. What I loved about this dish is that its not the usual noodles we get from weddings (ee-fu noodles with chives) but this dish has a lot of fish slices in it.(the kind of fish which you find it in Sum Loh Hor Fun)

How can we leave this restaurant without eating their specialty dessert-orh nee with gingko nuts and pumpkin!

During dinner, I took a couple of shots with my in-laws.

This is a family shot

My in-laws..with baby Keelia, borned on 1 Sept 07 (Teacher's Day)

And here are the 2 babies interacting...

Then Caleb started pulling Keelia's bib..oh gosh.

I really enjoyed myself tonight eating and being in the company of my family. Even on the way home, CT and I were still talking about the food we ate and how nice it was.

Do go there if you like to take your parents or in-laws out for dinner. But be prepared to pay about $20-$30 per person.
