To Jurong Bird Park

Posted by Dawn at Wednesday, December 19, 2007
Today, we planned to go to Jurong Bird Park as a family. You may wonder what am I thinking- bringing Caleb there when half the time, he may not even know what is going on? Well, first of all, I am sure in some ways he will benefit as he can hear the sounds of the birds and see the birds. But the more important reason why I brought him there is because CT has a corporate "Friends of the Bird Park" pass which we can go in for free! *wink*

Before we went there, I had to plan for our trip there the day before. Plan what shows to catch there-the timings and all so that we can gain as much when we are there and not miss out on the shows.

The Bird Park opens at 9am but we only left at 910 am because we didnt want to be in the jam. The ride there was quite smooth and fast. It was drizzling on the way there and CT was still wondering what we should do. Should we go somewhere first and wait for the rain to stop or what? I told CT that I have already prayed the night before for great and cooling weather with no rain. So I told him with confidence that the rain would stop when we reach there.

When we parked the car, CT wanted to take umbrella because it was quite cloudy. I told him no need as it will be good weather. But he scared. So, he took the huge golf umbrella. And you know what? We didnt even use the umbrella at all throughout the day.

Anyway, we arrived at about 945 am just in time for the first show at 10 am. It was Vicky's first time to the Bird Park and I feel pretty excited to show her our Bird Park.

The show started off with hawks flying so near us that its so amazing.

Even Caleb was looking and tracing the birds by turning his head...

The show introduced hawks, raptors, eagles, owls...and many others.

It was very entertaining...

During the show, it was Caleb's feeding time. So, had to feed him during the show till the show ends when everyone left but us sitting on the benches as Caleb drinks away his milk.

After his feeding, we made our way to catch the next show at 11 am.Along the way, we saw nice, interesting birds.

As we were early, we stopped by the playground for Caleb to play. But the one who rushed to sit on the rocking animals were not Caleb but CT! Oh boy...

Anyway, here's both of them riding...

Then Caleb attempted a long slide..he had fun as he was laughing on the way down.

For the next show, Caleb was looking at a girl. Haha..She's 7 months old. Dont they look cute together?

Nooo..I am not thinking of anywhere close to the future of Caleb's mate if you thinking that.

It seems that Caleb was more interested in what's going on in the show than her.

Caleb was so focused on the show that I kept calling him umpteen times to look at the camera but he blatently refused or ignored. Hummpfgh!

After some force by turning his whole body and head, he finally looked at me for a very short while with such expression as if he was saying, "aiyah, dont disturb me and quick hurry take the shot"

The show was very colourful and entertaining as they asked for lots of volunteers for different tricks the bird would perform.

After the show, we walked around at the Lory Loft which was this huge cage area where we can walk around as the birds just fly freely.

Inside this huge cage, the sounds of the birds were almost deafening. So shrieky...but guess I am quite well-trained, given that Caleb is my coach.

But amidst the sounds of the birds, Caleb could still sleep.

After the visit there, we may our way to have lunch. But on the way there, we stopped by to look at more birds.

Here's a bird working part-time as a bouncer.

In the restaurant, CT ordered a lamb burger with fries, while I shared with Vicky a jumbo fish burger. (As if I did not have enough of fish from last night's Japanese buffet) But the fish burger was delicious. Its like ordering fish and chips in a burger form. So the fish fillet was very crispy and big.

I also took out my picnic boxes- grapes and mango jelly which I brought along.

Poor Caleb can only look on and watch us eat all the food.

But he was actually quite happy-laughing and smiling away.

Do you know he can already hold his teether by himself and bite it? Well, not all the time but most.

After a great lunch, we went to the Penguin Expedition Area. This has always been one of my favourites. Maybe one of the reasons is because it is air-conditioned.

I love to look at the penguins as they look so different from other birds.

Caleb also seemed to enjoy himself too as he kept staring at the penguins as they swim up in front of him.

Ok, this next video is a little dark but hopefully, you can see Caleb actually staring at the penguin swimming as he turns his head to trace it. He also kept jumping which shows how happy and excited he was. It was just nice watching him enjoying himself.

After that, we walked to see the flamingos

There were so many of them..

As well as the pelicans..

Then we made our way to the waterfall aviary...where there is the world's tallest man-made waterfall.

Spotted this nice little bird eating fruits in the aviary

What happened to Caleb? Well, he was sleeping so soundly..again!

But he woke up shortly later at our last station before we exit the place.

We stopped to also change his diapers since there was a nice bench and shelter.

On our way out, we went through the gift shop and I saw this really cute hat which I quickly put it on for Caleb. He looked so funny...

But after snapping the shot, one of the staff came and told me that photography was not allowed. Sigh..So embarrassing. I was too excited that I didnt look at the notice.

Anyway, after our trip to the Bird Park, we went to IMM for shopping and to look around.

There was this nice kids area with a big playground and water area. Great for kids around 5 years old..

But a bit too crowded..

There were many shops in IMM and it was quite interesting as we walked around

Had a very enjoyable day. As we drove home, it was drizzling. Thank God for the great weather when we were in the Bird Park.
