Pre-birth of Danielle

Posted by Dawn at Thursday, December 11, 2008
For this second pregnancy, I feel everything seems like a repeat of my first one and because of that, I wasn't as excited as before. Moreover, I was overwhelmed with work that didnt give me time to think about my pregnancy.

Having Danielle in my uterus was a more difficult process than when I had Caleb as I experienced slight nauseousness throughout the whole 9 months (more so in the 1st month and last month). But glad that even with the nauseating feeling, I could still eat normally-without any special cravings or any aversions from food.

The 3rd trimester was the toughest as I grew so HUGE! My past largest maternity clothes which I wore the first time were all too small already. I had to go to maternity shops to buy more working clothes. Even towards the last month of pregnancy, I was only left with a couple of shirts which I could wear. Thank God it was the school holidays where I could dress down and wear t-shirts or polo shirts instead. My tummy was growing outwards and sharp. Many aunties who saw me were all certain that it was a boy inside due to their old wives tale and I was glad I proved them wrong as I do not believe in such tales unless its logical. I always think that God gave me a brain to think logically and not just follow any old wives tale or beliefs blindly.

So its not true if people say that they can tell the gender of the baby through the looks of the tummy or the belly button.

Anyway, throughout this whole pregnancy, I didnt prepare much as like I said, I didnt have the time to think about it. I could only think and prepare after my staff annual dinner which was after the end of November. So had about two weeks to prepare myself for Danielle's birth by buying whatever I do not have and to just rest and pack my hospital bag.

Towards the last couple of weeks, I was experiencing all sorts of pain which made me think if today IS the day I will be giving birth to Danielle but I learnt to ignore and just think that it was a false alarm. The pain I experienced were mentruation pain, pelvic pain, contractions, back pain which were all happening altogether.

Even towards the last week of my pregnancy, I experienced "show" which was a brownish discharge due to some bleeding. And guess what? I ignored even though it appeared on Sunday (7 Dec),Tues (9 Dec) and Wed (10 Dec).

On Wednesday, I had my gynae check up and I told the gynae about the "show" and she checked my dilation. I was already about 4 cm dilated. So I thought I would be going into hospital that very night. Gynae say that if I do not experience any pain, I will admit on Friday as it is a nice date to remember.

Interestingly, I did not experience any major contraction pains on Wed or on Thurs. It was strange how I could remain about 4 cm dilated in these couple of days.

Below are pictures of Danielle's development in my uterus.

At 32 weeks

At 34 weeks

This picture at 34 weeks is quite interesting as the gynae showed me this part and commented that it shows clearly that the baby's gender is a girl from this scan which still leaves me clueless as it only makes me think that the baby is a boy. I do not see anything female about this picture. Can you?
